Keep Her in School

Schoolgirls supported by Caring Aid in Nigeria

Keep Her in School funds a full year of junior secondary education for 6 girls from low-income families in Nigeria, covering the fees, uniforms and textbooks that most often force the poorest girls to drop out.

£926 total goal

Donations are processed securely by GlobalGiving. UK taxpayers can add Gift Aid at checkout.

Challenge

In many communities in Nigeria, girls are the first to leave school when a family cannot afford the cost. Even where public education is free, families must still pay for uniforms, textbooks, and school levies. For the poorest households, these costs are a real barrier that often forces a girl to drop out at the start of junior secondary school — ending not only her education but also her confidence, dignity, and future opportunities.

Solution

Keep Her in School removes the financial barrier that pushes the poorest girls out of the classroom. It funds one full year of junior secondary school for ten girls from low-income families at 150 per girl — covering fees, a uniform, textbooks, and learning materials. The group is kept small so each girl’s progress can be followed and measured. The most vulnerable girls are identified with a local partner, and costs are confirmed before funds are released.

Long-Term Impact

Ten girls will stay in junior secondary school for a full year instead of dropping out, with attendance maintained throughout. This first year is the start of a three-year journey: the aim is to renew support so each girl can progress toward completing her junior secondary education. Beyond the numbers, keeping a girl in school protects her dignity and confidence and widens her future — breaking the cycle in which the poorest girls are left behind.
